Qualifications:
The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school system and is responsible to the Board of Education for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Georgia Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws.

Candidates will be evaluated on their professional merits with emphasis on the following criteria:

Required:

  • Possesses a specialist degree (Ed. S.) and holds a Georgia Leadership Certificate Tier II at the L-6 level. A certificate number or eligibility letter from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission must be provided to verify such eligibility.   • Must be or have been a principal in a school system for a minimum of 1 year and have a minimum of an additional 2 years of experience as a principal and/or as an administrator in the central office of a school system.
  • Be of good moral character; not convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude, as required by Georgia law; possess high standards of ethical and moral conduct and a demonstrated ability to promote the success of all students by adhering to ethical principles and professional norms.
  • Has no immediate family members serving on the Social Circle Board of Education or employed as an administrator in the school district after July 1, 2009, as required by Georgia law.

Preferred:

  • Possesses an Ed. D. or a Ph.D. and holds a Georgia Leadership Certificate Tier II at the L-7 level.
  • Central office administrative experience.
  • Completion of one or more superintendent training courses.
  • The ability to set a widely shared vision, target a mission for learning, and foster a positive climate of mutual trust and respect among faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop collaborative partnerships with the greater community to support the learning priorities of the district.
  • Evidence of a demonstrated ability to effectively align district systems and operations and organizational performance to the goals and values of the district.
  • A willingness to live in an area that includes the Social Circle City limits or the area of Walton County designated as Zone 5.
  • Evidence of a global understanding of the management of facilities, transportation, nutrition, technology, and the State’s funding of district operations.
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and community members, to respond to diverse community interests and needs, and to mobilize community resources.
  • A documented history of promoting the success and well-being of all students and staff by adhering to ethical principles and professional norms.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, mandates, board of education policies, and ethical guidelines.
  • Evidence of a high level of effectiveness in the following personal qualities: Customer Focus, Values, Conflict Management, Judgment, Awareness of Future- Ready Education Practices, and Fit for the Position/Community

Salary and Benefits:

  • A negotiated compensation arrangement with a mix of salary and benefits.

  • Notice of Disclosure:
  • At least 14 calendar days prior to the meeting at which final action or vote is to be taken on the superintendent position, all documents concerning as many as three persons under consideration whom the board has determined to be the best qualified for the position shall be subject to inspection and copying. The board can vote on the appointment anytime after the 14 days.
