The Greene County School System Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified, instructionally focused, collaborative Superintendent to lead the system and serve as an advocate for public education. The new leader of Greene County Schools should have a successful background in competency-based education and a passion for the implementation of such a model. The Greene County Public Schools System has over 2,500 students enrolled in one elementary school, one middle school, one high school and a college and career academy and charter school. Rooted in tradition and driven by excellence, Greene County School System fosters a vibrant, inclusive learning community where all students are equipped for success in the classroom and beyond. Members of the Board are searching for a Superintendent who will bring innovative practices that provide engaging and challenging opportunities and inspire lifelong learning by embracing the diverse talents, cultures, and aspirations of all students, families, and the community. The Board projects the successful candidate to assume the responsibilities of the position on or around July 1, 2025.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development is engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board in identifying and screening the candidates.

Location: The Greene County School System is located in Greensboro, Georgia approximately halfway between Atlanta and Augusta Georgia on Interstate 20.
Salary: Regionally competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership to include high expectations, being data driven and maintaining a culture of accountability throughout the system. Experience as a superintendent or in a central office leadership position in a diverse, suburban/urban district to include classroom teaching experience is required. A Doctorate degree is desired and Georgia Superintendent certification – or eligibility for it – is required. The Board is seeking a candidate with the following desired characteristics:
- The new superintendent should have expertise in competency-based educational teaching and assessment strategies. Possessing a deep understanding and passion for the competency-based educational framework will create the major shift in school culture, structures, and pedagogy needed to ensure that all students succeed.
- An educational leader with a proven track record of improving student achievement to include a strong background in turn-around practices that will include effective instruction and curriculum design. The new superintendent must demonstrate a knowledge of educational research and understanding of how curriculum and instruction work together to improve teaching and learning.
- A leader with superb communication skills who values transparency and is willing to listen and project honesty, integrity and trust in order to sustain positive relationships.
- A proactive leader who can work effectively with the School Board and other leaders to create and implement a sustainable finance plan and has the ability to allocate funds responsibly and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders to advance the district’s goals.
- A leader who actively engages with teachers, school administrators, students and families incorporating their input into decisions that results in a well-reasoned decision-making process.
- A compassionate leader who leads with a love of children and family. A person who is highly visible and enjoys being around people in the community and understands what it means to be the “Face of the District”.
- The new superintendent must possess the visionary skills that will allow him/her to come into the system with knowledge of the community and schools and be able to use that knowledge to assess the needs and identify effective strategies to address the needs in an efficient and inclusive manner.
