Professional Development Programs

This program is designed to advance experienced superintendents to the next level of strategic leadership and advocacy for public education. This is accomplished through four learning modules. The first module occurs in September and is focused on the individual members of the program.
District Office leadership matters! Studies indicate that superior leadership within a school district’s office has a direct correlation to increased student achievement. GSSA’s District Office Professional Development Program is a one-year course of study designed to enhance the individual and collective leadership capacity of the district office, while supporting the superintendent’s ability to accomplish system-wide goals.
The Georgia School Superintendents Association is excited to introduce an array of expanded services and support structures for new superintendents called the Superintendent Induction Program (SIP).  In the first year, it is imperative that new superintendents establish strong governance practices and focused strategic directions as well as build relationships and trust among stakeholder groups.
The successful operation of any school system depends upon effective organization, recruitment, and management of human resources. This institute provides a comprehensive reference manual. Instruction emphasizes how to organize and operate a successful public school personnel office on a day-to-day basis. TUITION: $595
The appropriate housing of Georgia’s increasing student population depends upon effective funding, planning and construction of school facilities. The Facilities and Capital Outlay Management Institute provides each participant with two comprehensive reference manuals. The instructor guides participants through an intensive study of the processes and procedures used in planning and implementing a capital building project.

The Administrative Assistants’ Workshop will be held November 6-7, 2024, at a TDB location in Athens, Georgia. It is estimated that as much as 75% of the work in the Superintendent’s office is performed by support staff. Without a reliable and effective staff, the school district suffers. The role of the administrative assistant is extremely important and , this can not be stressed enough, yet we don’t always give them the professional learning support that they need and desire.

One of the most challenging roles in our current education system is that of local school superintendent. The Superintendent Professional Development Program (SPDP) prepares aspiring superintendents for bold, versatile and visionary leadership. A two-year program of study, SPDP emphasizes executive skills and knowledge a successful superintendent must possess in order to lead a district.
This popular institute is offered twice each year and focuses on effective use of financial resources; operational planning at the school system level; budget development, presentation, and approval; the state funding mechanism; and local taxation for schools.

A one-day Human Resources Alumni Update is held once at the end of each school year. There will be a HR Update held on June 18, 2024 and another on June 17, 2025, at Holiday Inn – Macon North in Macon, Georgia. This update is designed for individuals who have already completed the three-session Human Resources Institute. The purpose of this one-day event is to provide current information regarding laws, policies, regulations, evaluations, and other pertinent Human Resources topics.
