Stewart County, nestled in the heart of southwest Georgia, is a rural district dedicated to educational excellence. The district comprises an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school, all of which have been recognized as reward schools for their outstanding academic progress. Students in Stewart County Schools have a wealth of opportunities to explore their interests and talents. The district offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including football, basketball, and track. Additionally, students can enroll in CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education) courses, drama, business, and Advanced Placement (AP)courses. At Stewart County Schools, educators are committed to building the future, one child at a time.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school system and is accountable to the Board of Education for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Georgia Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws. Candidates will be evaluated based on their professional merits, with emphasis on the following criteria:

  • Possession of, or eligibility for, an Education Specialist Degree or higher, and holds or is eligible for a Georgia Standard Professional Clear Renewable Tier II Certificate at Level 6 or higher in Educational Leadership. A certificate number or letter of eligibility from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as verification of such eligibility must be provided.   • Must possess good moral character and have no criminal convictions involving moral turpitude, as required by GA law; possession of high standards of ethical and moral conduct and a demonstrated ability to promote the success of all students by adhering to ethical principles and professional norms.
  • Has no immediate family members serving on the Stewart County Board of Education or employed as an administrator in the school district after July 1, 2009, as required by GA law.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership in similar demographic environments, with a history of progressively responsible roles that showcase increasing expertise and responsibility.
  • Have the capacity to make informed and timely decisions that are in the best interest of the students and staff.
  • Ensures equity and cultural responsiveness are prioritized in all leadership practices.
  • Possesses strong instructional leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to implement research-based best practices in teaching, curriculum, instructional management, and assessment to foster each student’s academic success and well-being.
  • Creates and sustains an environment in which each student is known, accepted and valued, and encouraged to be an active and responsible member of the school and district community.
  • Encourages professional development by offering tailored learning and growth opportunities for educators and staff, grounded in a deep understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Promotes holistic development emphasizing the importance of both academic and athletic success.
  • Ensures that the budget is managed efficiently and transparently by setting clear financial goals, reviewing expenditures and making adjustments as needed within the budget.
  • Regularly updates the school community about important changes, upcoming events and policy decisions.
  • Committed to embracing the local culture and becoming an active, integral member of the Stewart County community.
  • Must be innovative dynamic and forward-thinking; excels in generating creative solutions and pioneering new approaches to educational leadership, visionary mindset, capable of driving progress and fostering an environment of continuous improvement across the entire school district.
